What Autism Can Look Like

Autism is a different way of thinking and feeling. It’s not a flaw. But some things can be hard. Here's what people often notice:
Talking and Listening
Small talk feels confusing. Reading faces or jokes can be hard. You may say what you mean very directly.
Making Friends
You want connection but the rules of friendship feel made up. Group settings can be a lot.
Same Way, Every Time
Routines feel safe. Surprise changes can throw off the whole day. New foods, places, or plans can be hard.
Deep Interests
You love what you love. You may know more about your favorite topic than anyone you know.
Sensory Stuff
Sounds, lights, tags on clothes, smells — they can feel huge. Some textures or sounds may calm you down.
Repeating Movements
Rocking, hand-flapping, pacing, repeating words. These can help your brain feel okay.

Sound Familiar?

Autism shows up in real life like this:

In a 5-year-old

He lines up his cars by color. He doesn’t answer to his name some of the time. The grocery store makes him melt down. School pickup is loud and he hates it.

In a teen

She does great in class but lunch is the worst part of her day. She memorizes scripts for talking to people. By Friday she’s burned out.

In an adult

He’s been told he’s “rude” or “weird” his whole life. He just got diagnosed at 34. Suddenly a lot of things make sense.

  • Big feelings are hard to handle
  • Family is stressed and needs support too

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you do autism evaluations?
Yes, for some ages. Reach out and we’ll tell you what’s available in your state.
Does Medicaid cover this?
Yes — in MD, VA, GA, MI, and IL. We also take most major insurance.
Will you try to ‘fix’ my child?
No. We help people grow in ways that feel right for them.
My child can’t sit through a video call. What then?
We work with that. Sessions can be short, parent-led, or play-based depending on age.
I think I might be autistic as an adult. Can you help?
Yes. We work with autistic adults too.

Whatever your brain is doing, we'll meet you there.

Let’s talk. A first visit takes about 5 minutes to book and most people are in within a week.
